2-Star Review for The Pearl Senior Living – Overpromised and Underdelivered
After touring several senior living communities, we chose The Pearl in Lewisville based on its promise of luxury living, spacious apartments, and high-end amenities. Unfortunately, our experience has been frustrating, disappointing, and riddled with operational and leadership issues that made my aunt’s transition far more difficult than it needed to be.
Move-In Was a Mess.
We were provided a specific move-in date to qualify for a promotional offer, so we coordinated everything accordingly. But when move-in day came, the apartment was clearly not ready:
• Walls had sloppy paintwork that now needs to be redone.
• Carpets were stained and splattered with paint.
• Kitchen cabinets were dirty, and paint droplets were throughout the unit.
• Bathroom fixtures were scummy, the shower head was covered in buildup, and we had to replace the faucets ourselves.
The Process Was Disorganized from Day One.
• There was no transportation available during the first week—apparently due to a broken shuttle.
• Medication intake wasn’t completed on move-in day, so my aunt couldn’t even stay the night.
• The power backup system was grossly misrepresented. We were told The Pearl was on a hospital-grade power grid. In reality, when power goes out, only the hallways remain lit—resident apartments go dark.
• Key fob access to the front door was promised for after-hours, especially for residents with pets. In reality, the doors lock at 8 PM, and the fob doesn’t work.
• Housekeeping is wildly inconsistent. The “daily bed-making” advertised is hit or miss. One day it’s 7 PM, the next 8:30 AM, and sometimes it doesn’t happen at all.
The Bigger Problem: Leadership & Staffing.
While the Executive Director has been apologetic, there’s been no clear ownership or leadership to correct these issues. The tone may be sympathetic, but what’s lacking is action. Leadership has yet to rally the staff, set accountability, or guide the community through these ongoing problems.
To make matters worse, staff reductions were recently made—and with them, they eliminated the Move-In Coordinator, which is a vital role in any senior living facility. Without this key position, the community has clearly been struggling to manage new resident transitions.
Equally concerning is the facility management, which appears to be completely out of its depth. The individual currently responsible is clearly underqualified, and it shows. Issues go unresolved, communication is lacking, and there’s a visible disconnect between management and operations.
One Bright Spot: The Food.
Despite the many shortcomings, the quality of the food has been a highlight. The Pearl has a dedicated chef who’s doing a great job in that area—meals are well-prepared and consistently well-received. It’s one of the few areas where the experience meets expectations.
Bottom Line:
We came in expecting a well-run, upscale senior living community—but what we’ve found is a series of broken promises, miscommunication, and poor leadership. If you’re considering The Pearl, ask the tough questions, get specifics in writing, and don’t assume the sales pitch reflects the day-to-day reality. Right now, it doesn’t.
best Senior Living facility I’ve seen. Beautifully appointed, personable staff, very welcoming and bright and clean. I think we’ve found the perfect home for our loved one.
