  1. If I could give zero stars, I wouldn’t hesitate. We chose this facility based on its great reviews, but if we could go back in time and make a different decision, we would without question.

From the start, the level of care was unacceptable. My grandmother was on a puréed diet with thickened liquids, yet the staff repeatedly failed to follow these critical dietary restrictions. An aide gave her regular water, and my uncle caught them serving her normal food instead of puréed meals. When my sister, who is a nurse, confronted the staff, the assigned nurse couldn’t even find thickener and was unaware of my grandmother’s dietary needs. The kitchen staff was just as uninformed, and there were no signs in her room indicating that she required oxygen, thickened liquids, and puréed food—something that should have been standard protocol.

Due to this negligence, my grandmother developed aspiration pneumonia from being given thin liquids. She had only been in the facility for less than two weeks. At 8 AM, we were informed of her diagnosis, and within 16 hours, she had passed away.

This was a preventable tragedy caused by the carelessness of the staff. The entire team either needs to be retrained or replaced. No family should ever have to suffer the loss of a loved one due to such blatant disregard for basic medical care.

It took me two months to write this review because of how distraught it made me. However I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience the tragedy our family went through.

  2. After being discharged from the Hospital following abdominal hernia repair, my mother was sent to subacute rehab at Dumont Center. It was recommended that she received physical therapy there to regain strength and return to her assisted living facility. However, during her stay at Dumont, my mother’s health deteriorated significantly. She lost a considerable amount of weight, due to lack of appetite and became frail and weak, unable to do much. Despite my sister and I expressing our concerns to the doctors and nurses, nothing changed, and it seemed no one cared.

Against medical advice, I took my mother out of Dumont, and brought her directly to the emergency room, where she was admitted and spent almost a week in the hospital. In the ER, she was so dehydrated, that it took 5 attempts to find a vein for IV fluids. During my visits to Dumont, I often found her room filthy, with dirt under the bed and pills on the floor. It was unclear who was monitoring her medication intake.

My mother was subsequently transferred to a different rehabilitation center, where she is now receiving excellent care. She gets physical therapy 7 days a week, is thriving, and has started to gain weight. I firmly believe that my mother would not have survived, if she had remained at Dumont.

It is imperative to review the care provided to our vulnerable elderly. It is unacceptable that so much money is paid to a center that shows so little regard for the wellbeing of its patients.

  3. This is not a 5 star facility. I was sold the Brooklyn Bridge by a snake oil salesman….The marketing director. This is not a Luxury Care Center. I would never ever recommend this place. The marketing director LIED to me. I asked do they offer neurorehabilitation and he said yes. When my sister arrived there she was placed on the memory floor aka dementia floor. She does not have dementia. She described being searched when she arrived. When she was placed in a room on the 3rd floor and the room was dirty. The toilet room is shared between 4 women. When I told them I was taking her home because of the unsanitary conditions, the social worker said I could not take her home. I asked if my sister was being held hostage and do I have to call the police. We made an agreement to move her to a different room providing the marketing director orders a full length mirror so she can change her dressing herself. The marketing director did a bait and switch. He ordered 5 peel and stick mirror tiles. In the new room I have told them 4 times about the leak from the toilet which they have not fixed. The floor was wet and a maintenance worker told me not worry about the water on the floor. I told him my sister is a fall risk. All they care about is getting money from Medicare. They stress Medicare pays 100% for the first 20 days. The social worker director lies. The Nurse Practitioner is arrogant and obnoxious. He was upset because I had challenged his medical opinion. They did a PPD and no one came back to check the result. They wanted to know if my sister was a veteran and how much is her pension. I told them it is non of their business. I was told she would 45 minutes of PT and 45 minutes of OT. That was a lie. She only received 30 minutes of PT twice. When I told them I wanted her discharged the social claimed she never said my sister couldn’t leave. And if she left she could not get visiting nurse services at home. The aides are very nice. If I could rate less than a star I would. The nurse wanted to stand at the door and peek at his vent patient in the other bed. I told him to walk to the bed to monitor her. The dr wanted to give my sister Nsaid even though she had on a red bracelet for Allergies and on the red bracelet it says allergic to NSAID. When you walk in the first floor has a luxurious feeling. I only toured the first 2 floors. Floor 3 the dementia unit is run down. I choose peace everyday and they chose to bring out my anger every time I had to deal with the social worker or nurse practitioner. They are not consistent with treatment. No direct care plan. My sister was on a renal diet and they would give her salty food. I had to get my sister out of there after 7 days. Again they wanted to fill a bed to get the 20k from Medicare for the 3 weeks. Stay away from this place.
