I am fairly early in the process of looking for an independent living facility for my mother. For anyone in a similar situation I recommend a visit to 5 star residences in Yonkers. Speak with Charlie Dumas there, and he will make the process easier and actually enjoyable. He is knowledgeable, courteous, and extremely helpful. The facilities at 5 star may not be brand new, but they are very clean, very well maintained and all staff we met while touring the facility were very courteous and helpful. 5 Star recommendation for both 5 Star Residences and for Charlie.
I have been a resident of Five star for a little over two years in that time. I have seen some excellent employees Joe Tolo is one… He is kind intelligent patient. He is truly a star. I am very sad to hear that he is leaving. He has been like family to me good luck Joe you will be missed
My 91 year old mom moved into Five Star of Yonkers in spring of 2024, after giving up the apartment she and my dad had lived in for more than 60 years. Encouraging her to make this move was the best thing that we could have done for her. She has lots of new friends, goes to exercise class every morning, and attends countless lectures, performances and other activities every week. The staff at Five Star is caring and kind, and I want to single out Alyssa Sukhraj, who sends out a daily email update to residents and their families and goes beyond the call of duty in a hundred other ways. Last week, my mom’s computer died and I wasn’t able to get over there right away to deal with it. Alyssa stepped in, texted me with exactly what I needed to order to get things working, and then set it all up after it arrived. When I wrote to thank her, she wrote back that she was glad to do it, and that it’s like “I have 300 grandmas and grandpas LOL.” That’s the kind of spirit that really makes a difference in keeping elderly people independent and happy, so thank you Alyssa!
My parents (and now just my mother) have lived at Five Star in Yonkers for about 9 years. Though it is not perfect, there are a few characteristics that make it exceptional. One of them is the staff and their level of genuine caring and concern for the residents. In particular, Rawlison and his maintenance crew, who are always respectful, responsive, and courteous. Whenever I leave here, I know that my mother is getting good care, and that her needs will be addressed. Also, the food in the dining room has gotten noticeably better in the last year.
