Our team deeply understands the unique challenges of memory loss. We are committed to providing compassionate, person-centered care with proactive solutions that honor and support each individual’s story.
Hale Kū‘ike means ‘house of understanding,’ reflecting our mission to provide the highest level of care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related illnesses.
My mother was a resident at Hale Ku’ike for over two years during her late stages of dementia. It was a difficult decision to move her out of her home during the pandemic, but I am forever grateful to the loving and supportive community of staff who work so hard to nurture these residents. Cost was not a consideration, and I had looked into many memory care facilities as well as luxury independent living communities with graduated care. After considering our options, we chose Hale Ku’ike because it was specifically designed to support the unique needs of dementia patients. In addition, Dorothy Colby’s educational seminars on dementia care gave me a lot of guidance along this journey. My mom was down to 70 pounds when she arrived. Within a few months, she gained 35 pounds and was back to her normal weight thanks to the delicious meals, fun activities and social connections that reinvigorated her. We enjoyed our visits, and my daughter especially loved the therapy pets who provided a sense of normalcy and fun. My mom’s years there were good ones. Her quality of life would not have been the same anywhere else. Thank you David, Jessica, Marcus, ReeAnn and all the awesome team there!
AVOID THIS NURSING HOME AT ALL COSTS! Do not entrust the care of your elders to this facility. The staff shows a blatant lack of concern and will not take proper care of your loved ones. Save your money and choose another nursing home. It’s not worth the investment of time or money.
When it became time to find a Home away from Home for my mom with Dementia, It was an emotional decision and there were so many places to decide on. Then a friend of mine told me to visit Hale Ku’ike, a memory care facility. I was fortunate to be given a tour of Hale Ku’ike by David Fitzgerald, President and owner. His kind and warm personality gave me an immediate desire to learn more about the philosophy behind Hale Ku’ike. What I learned was extraordinary. He has a long history with caring for the elderly and during the planning stages of Hale Ku’ike he visited Scandinavian countries to see how they care for their elderly, since they are the leaders in the world. You can see at Hale Ku’ike how unique it is from other care facilities. After my tour of Hale Ku’ike Nuuanu I knew it was where my mom would be comfortable, safe and happy. The compassionate care by the entire staff is amazing. The training they receive allows them to identify types and stages of dementia and bring out the positive within each resident. Her medical needs are always taken care of professionally by the RN on staff with communications to the family being a priority and the activities for all the residents are well planned through the day for each persons capabilities. I highly recommend Hale Ku’ike if you are looking for a Home away from Home. It’s the Best there is!
Hale Ku’ike has been mom’s home since April 2021. The staff is consistent and very caring. Mom is in very good hands and her family does not worry. We are very fortunate to call Hale Ku’ike home.
