This agency like many others has a very broken system and approach I came to them as a permanently disabled domestic violence victim seeking help for permanent housing instead I was treated with constant blatant discrimination being associated with stereotypes against people who are perceived as black when I try to go to higher-ups about the constant discriminatory remarks it was brushed off I was told that the individual I was dealing with was born in a time where that type of behavior was typical and that they weren’t going to do anything about it I did end up getting a room in a house I had to leave because the landlord had extreme mental health issues where my my safety was at risk I repeatedly kept coming to the Independent Living Center telling them what was going on first I was told I would be possibly help with finding another place and that they were going to help look for me then and I noticed I kept coming in and being told the same thing which was to attend the housing workshop and fill out other applications the ending of what happened was my landlord tried to intimidate me out of his home with a weapon and I was forced to leave now I am dealing with domestic violence again and displaced
Not a place to find any resources regarding housing or information on programs relevant to living independently if you’re disabled, low income or homeless as one of the ladies working there referred to it as being “dead in the water”.
