Wish I could submit zero stars for South Marin Health & Wellness Center. My dad was there for less than 3 weeks last year and his care was horrific. Not only did he come down with COVID after 1 week, he also got his first UTI. On the day I came to pick him up, he was curled up in a ball complaining of pain all over his body and extremely weak. At the time I was not familiar with UTI symptoms, so I did not think to call 911. All they did was help me get him to my car and gave him Tylenol. When we arrived at the next facility, they did call 911 and he was transported to the nearest hospital for a 5 day stay. Worst Skilled Nursing facility we ever experienced!
I am giving three stars because the staff, the nurses and the helpers were so nice to my brother. My brother got covid there. At my insistence he was brought to Marin General Hospital yesterday on the 10th of May. They did not want to let him go and go to the hospital. I had to argue with people to tell them how sick he was. He had not held any food down for 6 days. Initially when I call them I told them to bring ensure to his room. I told them that him that he had to eat and maybe he should be fed intravenously. They told me that they would have to set up equipment to feed him intravenously. I do not know how long that would have taken. It was found out that they there was covid at the rehabilitation center about 10 days ago. They said that they had tested and that there were only four people that had it and that they were in isolation. So, how did my brother get covid. Apparently, they weren’t testing the staff every day. I brought up that he needed to eat and was losing weight. They told me that they had checked his weight on the 4th of May and he had lost 6 lb. I pointed out that today was the 10th of May and he probably had lost more weight. They said that they were treating him with Paxslova and that he wasn’t that sick. He was so weak that he could not get out of bed. They told me that they had tested his temperature and he didn’t have a fever. By this time I insisted that they let him go to Marin General Hospital so he could be treated properly. They finally, finally said that they would release him and send him to Marin general. The last conversation I had with them was when they called and they ask if I would like to reserve the room for him for $425 a day after he got out of the hospital. I said, “No Thank you”! I called you and you never called me back!!
My 80 year old mother was admitted here after breaking her hip and having surgery at Marin Health Medical Center. I had never. been in a skilled nursing facility so wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I cannot say enough good things about the facility, but more importantly, the care my mother is receiving. I’m here daily and have a lot of respect for the team as each of their jobs aren’t easy. The staff truly care about her health and well being. The CNA’s and NA’s provide her with excellent care and the PT’s/OT’s do a great job motivating her to get her back on her feet. Kelly has been wonderful with various resources, answering questions and reviewing options when it comes time to discharge my mom. Brian has been great with taking care of her incisions after the surgery/it has healed perfectly and Duncan has been very kind and patient with my mothers care. My mom is a vegetarian and is a picky eater and the nutrition team has been very accommodating. The facility is clean, they have daily activities and make an effort to have fun with the patients. It’s not easy picking a skilled nursing facility but I’m extremely grateful she ended up here.
My husband has Lewy Body Dementia. He has had several falls, silent pneumonia and more recently several small strokes. He has been at South Marin Health & Wellness Center located at 1220 S Eliseo Dr, Greenbrae four times in the past 12 months. Dr Nguyen is the doctor for South Marin. We first met Dr Nguyen at Marin General Hospital last February 2023. Dr Nguyen was our Hospitalist. She is fantastic! Seriously fantastic! Smart and incredibly responsive to her patient needs. When we were told my husband needed to go to a skilled nursing facility I was thrilled when I learned Dr Nguyen manages South Marin’s medical needs.
South Marin is not the newest or prettiest facility in Marin. However the service level at this facilty is phenomenal. Just like Dr Nguyen, the ENTIRE staff is very responsive to all their patient needs. Each patient at South Marin receives physical, occupational and swallowing therapy 5 days a week if needed. All of their many therapists are amazing. They have a wound care specialist to care for wounds if your loved is there due to a fall. They have a dietician that monitors your loved one’s weight and dietary concerns. Their Director of Nursing and Case Manager are on their A game. The Facilty Director who manages the entire facility is spot on doing his job. I’ve heard of other facilities that are newer and more pleasing to the eye but they are short staffed and patients do not receive the attention they need, when they need it. Here when you press the nurse’s “call button” numerous people come to ask what you need. Diapers are changed immediately to prevent rashes.
I am personally a very hard person to please. My expectations are high of all people and services. I have chosen to have my husband at South Marin for solid reasons.
Their RNs and CNAs are top notch. They are all professional kind and a delight to work with. It is hard to pick favorites because they are all so good. The janitors are constantly cleaning throughout the day. They offer activities for their patients. The food is decent.
Dr Nguyen responds immediately to all questions and requests. I am constantly impressed with her, along with the nursing and administrative staff. You have regular CARE TEAM meetings with the Case Manager and therapists to openly discuss progress reports. South Marin is a well run machine.
If you have someone who needs rehabilitation after a hospital stay, I HIGHLY recommend South Marin located around the corner from Marin General Hospital.
