The Hacienda Mission San Luis Rey is a beautiful senior living facility. It will be my first choice when time comes to change my living arraignments. The staff was friendly, helpful and the food was delicious. 5 stars 👍
Michael Jenkins was a wonderful host and tour guide.
The Hacienda is a very nice looking facility, many of the staff there were very good and my parents liked them. My concerns were with how some things were handled.
Early on one of them had a fall, no ones fault and no injuries occurred, but after discussions inquired as to what is the response time when a resident pushes their “need help” call button. My recollection was it took 25 minutes, wanted to find out if that was the norm. After some back and forth, was told my parents weren’t pushing the button correctly. Huh??? Computer log showed button pushed 5-6 times. In other words, the need help button was pushed 5-6 times, their computer system acknowledged it was pushed, but somehow or somebody supposedly determined it to be incorrect and that’s why it took 25 minutes???
Once, found my mother very somnolent, difficult to arouse. Had been previously prescribed a few pain pills to be used on occasion. Asked one of the staff if she had been given one and was told no. Thought maybe something serious may be going on, went and talked to another staff was told she had been given one. Relieved there was a reason for sedation but concerned there was some inaccurate information relayed.
Visitor parking situation not convenient only 3? spaces for visitors as of a couple months ago, otherwise you park at the Mission. Recommend walking this to see for yourself. Supposedly there have been discussions for several months, resolved?
Subject of increased care charges came up. First was told safety checks were needed, reminded them they’ve already been ongoing for several months, do you mean more than what are already occurring? No, we just weren’t charging you yet. Not my recollection, when safety checks were instituted it was presented there were still enough care credits to have them without increased charges.Credibility?
Had gotten electric chairs to assist mobility, quite a few residents have them. Was told now they have to watch them more since they use electric wheelchairs and that’s an extra charge.?? Continued to question, more items were brought up.
Said my mother was incontinent, and that required more charges. OK, I was only aware of one episode which was when she had gastroenteritis, possibly from something she ate. Since leaving Hacienda there has been zero incident of incontinence. Many other reasons were brought up etc etc. but was having difficulty determining what was credible from the verbal laundry list presented. No written documentation was ever presented delineating the itemized extra care charges.
Decision was made to move out, gave 30 day notice and vacated. The following month, they debited another full months rent from the bank account, not a paltry sum. Most likely an honest mistake since rent payment was electronically managed. Contacted the business office was told they were processing a refund, it would be mailed in a few weeks. Asked why not electronically refund the amount since that’s how it was removed in the first place. Was told that’s not how they do it. After reviewing the balance to be refunded, asked for a breakdown, they were charging for cleaning and some minor repairs which I fully expected. There was also a charge for one days rent for the 1st day of the following month after vacating. What! Disputed that and was told they would talk to manager and was going to take another couple weeks to recalculate and process. Subsequently was called back and told a refund is being sent and should receive in a day or two by next day mail. A week went by and nothing, followup call to the business office were not returned. Ultimately contacted corporate management of the parent company. Described the situation and received a timely response. After a couple days, received the refund, electronically to the bank.
Not really sure what’s going on inside the Hacienda itself, but the experience there was not particularly memorable. Thankfully the national office of parent company took responsibility and rectified the situation
Beautiful rooms, layout, and quality furnishings. I love the influence of the Spanish style infused into the vibe of the entire community, which makes it feel unique to San Diego’s spirit. I’ve heard great things about their staff as well. When I’m ready to arrange retirement placement for my parents, this is the place I’ll go!
We recently toured the Hacienda and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for senior living. Every need has been considered, the facilities are immaculate and the staff is welcoming and friendly. In particular, Nenette Limcumpao made touring the Hacienda an exceptional experience.
