My parents moved in 2023, and it’s a nice facility. We experienced the growing pains for this new facility. Some of the caregivers are great, some not so great.
The low star rating is the “bait-and-switch” and rising rental costs we are experiencing. We got in at a reasonable rental rate in 2023. I felt the pricing was due to the occupancy being low, maybe less than 50% at the time. Over the 2 years since, the occupancy has reached 90% and the facility has raised our rent 10% the first year, and this year are raising it another 15%! I feel this is extortion at it’s finest. Elderly parents are not easy to move and with memory loss, familiarity is paramount. It’s not a simple task to move to somewhere cheaper, so you tolerate the grotesque rate increases. Since this place is a “RCFE”, Residential Care Facility, rent control doesn’t apply. So BEWARE! If you would like your parent(s) to stay at facility longer than a year, BEWARE your rental cost can skyrocket, and not at a reasonable inflation rate. I do remember asking Kiel if the rent increases are capped at move in, and he said it’ll be similar to inflation rate. But I didn’t get that in writing, and now am faced with 15% rate increase. Just not sustainable for elderly parents with limited income. It’s like the business is there to bleed my parents dry.
I have been so happy with Watermark San Ramon. My dad is a resident here and his transition was truly seamless and the staff there always do all they can to ensure he is comfortable and right at home. They have such great events and activities that engage the residents and keep them busy. Highly recommend Watermark San Ramon for your loved one.
Moving my Mom here was the best decision I could have made. I moved her from another facility. The staff is really caring and I don’t have to worry about My Mom any longer. The food is great. Everyone working here seems to like their job and each other. Such a wonderfully positive, beautiful place!
