  1. I am expressing my concerns about the recent mistreatment of a resident at Big Elm Retirement. I’ve known this resident since childhood & have close ties with her friends who have helped her throughout her life.
The staff members have thrown away her personal belongings without her consent & told her afterward that her personal items had “disintegrated”. These staff members’ actions are not only disrespectful & dishonest, but are a violation of her personal rights. Her possessions were in proper storage containers, which had been approved by a staff member as fine during recent months.
This unexpected loss of her personal belongings has had a tremendous emotional impact on the resident as well as her friends who have helped with her care. Her sense of personhood & dignity are diminished. It is unfortunate that anyone would have to call this facility a home, but it’s been her home for several years. .
I am so disheartened for her. While there are laws in place to protect residents who must live in places like this, which steps & corrective measures will be taken by Big Elm Retirement to restore her loss & sense of well being? 🙏✝️❤️

  2. I feel so sorry for the people having to live there. What could possibly be the excuse for getting rid of a residents personal belongings without their approval, a signed chain of custody or giving them the chance to send it out. Makes you wonder what else happens there.

  3. I am currently posting this due to a life long friend that is currently a resident at Big Elm Retirement home. The resident reported to my family that the retirement home staff had allegedly threw away a large number of boxes with all her possessions in it. She also claimed the retirement home staff member informed her that her personal items had “ Disintegrated “. The items were stored in plastic totes and off the floor. My sister actually saw the items along with a staff member in few months ago and claimed they were fine. I have made numerous calls to management and went to the retirement home in person. They refused to talk to me due to I’m not a family member. My family has provided snacks for all the residents and staff on numerous occasions. We have taken this resident out to the movies and restaurants for many years. I understand I can’t talk about her medical issues or personal information, but my complaint is about a staff issue allegedly throwing away all her worldly possessions. The resident is heart broken. The last supervisor claimed they would investigate it and notify the resident involved. To my knowledge as of today on June 25th 2024 they have not spoken to the resident. I have been very kind and professional while trying to resolve this problem. I have ran out of options so I will be reporting this to the authorities over the inspections of nursing homes. I will be watching for any possible retaliation against the resident, myself or my family for reporting this issue. We are overwhelmed with sadness.

  4. CARE IS NOT PROVIDED NOR DID ANY NURSE SEEM TO BE ON STAFF
My aunt seemed to be lost amongst the other patients I was there visiting her and no one but nutrition came by. That is unacceptable for any form of nursing center.

    Staff attentiveness: -10
Staff Know how: unable to really answer
Patients: Patients seemed to be just roaming the halls.

    Nursing Aid:-10
    PATIENT ATTENTIVENESS: 1

Family : if not for my family continuously checking, visiting, and just always loving on my auntie especially her son ( who showed an unimaginable amount of alertness and gentleness to her condition) ANYTHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO HER. I COMMEND MY COUSIN AND FAMILY FOR MAKING THE BEST OUT OF THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES AND ALWAYS MAKING CERTAIN THEY DID THEIR JOB EVEN THOUGH IT MEANT JUGGLING THE STAFF AND MANAGING HER CARE THEMSELVES.

    ALL IN ALL UNACCEPTABLE.
