I am writing to share my deeply concerning experience with the memory care unit at Canterfield Oak Ridge, where my mother was a resident. Unfortunately, the care she received was far below acceptable standards, and I feel compelled to inform others about the issues we encountered.
Neglect of basic hygiene: my mother was left in her room for weeks without being showered. She was often left in the same clothes for an entire week, which is completely unacceptable in any facility. Her shower was used as a storage area.
Isolation During meals: instead of being brought to the common dining area to eat, with other residents, my mother was given food in her room. This practice not only isolated her, but it also deprived her of the social interaction that is crucial for individuals with dementia. The food was also delivered to a dirty bedside table that was only cleaned by her family members.
Medication mismanagement: medication‘s were left on her tray without any supervision to ensure she actually took them. This lack of oversight is dangerous, and shows a severe lapse in proper care protocols.
Untrained staff: the aids responsible for her care verbalized that they have had no training and handling dementia patients. Some expressed desire to give good care while others had no intention of providing any care. The lack of specialized training is alarming, and likely contributed to the poor quality of care of my mother received.
Leadership concerns: the leader ship team at Canterfield of Oak Ridge was more focused on keeping their staff happy then providing safe and competent care to the residence. Their misplaced priorities were evident in the overall neglect and in adequate care provided, as well as the response to any of our concerns.
In summary, the care of my mother received at Canterfield of Oak Ridge was severely lacking in many fundamental areas. I hope this review helps others make more informed decisions.
I quit there several yr.back,I was in housekeeping, the residents were being cheated on there rent, and were not treated the same after the director kathy left, the new director is still there and the residents would come out crying after speaking with her,it went down hill fast and I did not want to leave, but my heart couldn’t take what I couldn’t change, all office personnel left, some came back,I hope it has improved
Can’t say enough about Canterfield of Oak Ridge. I’ve had a wonderful experience! Excellent staffing!
Just moved in my mom…Casey and everyone that we met with was great. Nice facility. I will update review after a few weeks.
She has been there now for 1.5 years and they do a great job.
Mom passed away, and the staff was great and very caring. Great facility and staff. I would highly recommend.
