Management here is HORRIBLE. They steal from residents and treat their staff horribly. Many times I have visited there was a strong odor of pee and poop. With that smell there was always bugs and flys to follow.
This place was horrible. They told us they had awake at night staff but when we moved my Dad in it turned out the awake at night staff was only upstairs and they had him downstairs then complained about him wandering at night, which we told them about before he moved in, that’s why we wanted a place with awake at night staff. They constantly had the TV muted or off then would be annoyed that he would be bored and pacing, wandering, and rearranging things. They claim to be a secure facility but would let my Dad, who is 10 years into his Alzheimers, be outside by himself. One day I drove up and found him up on the road by himself. At one point he fell and they called us saying he was ok but when I got there (it’s a 20 minute drive from my house) he was still on the ground, unable to get up, complaining about his back hurting. That’s certainly not my definition of him being ok! They had a doorway that had a note on it to keep the door closed at all times because it had a very steep set of stairs, but they always had that door wide open. They were constantly telling us when he was out of his medications instead of letting us know they were low so we could refill them and get them in time. They told us he would be able to stay there through his Alzheimers through hospice but when he went to the hospital for a surgery and the hospital called them asking if he could be released to them they told the hospital it was fine as long as he was still in the same cognitive place as before he went in. He has Alzheimers, tomorrow he might not be in the same cognitive place! There will obviously be a decline. He had multiple falls where nobody witnessed his fall even though he was in the main common area each time and they were claiming through the state that they had someone with him at all times and a second person to help him to stand and sit. This is not a safe place for someone with advanced Alzheimers.
As a healthcare provider I was thoroughly impressed with this facility and the quality of humans that run it. It is one of the prettiest locations I have ever seen and the views are amazing. It is a very clean, welcoming environment. You definitely would feel safe leaving a family member here. I would recommend this place to anyone in need of a safe space to care for their loved ones. Diana the Chief Nursing Office is super hard working, sweet and will definitely offer you reassurance that your loved ones are in good hands. She is a great patient advocate who listens and cares.
The care provided to the residents at A Meadow View AFH is unparalleled. My dad had that difficult sometimes combative type of dementia that made things very hard. And after two years of this, I was literally at my wits end – even went to the ER one night because I thought I was having a heart attack, nope. Just stress. But then I found this place and for the first time in two years I could go to sleep at night without being in full blown worry mode and like Diana, the Owner, committed to me early on, finally I could concentrate on just being a son again.
My dad recently passed away and he had only been a resident for just over three months, but it was a wonderful final three months. The staff there, all of them… but particularly Katrina and Lawrence showed such care and literal love that really, I could ask for nothing more. My dad was never left in his room, he would be brought out in the morning for breakfast and spend the whole day in the living area doing planned activities or out on the front or back porch, listening to music and having the buzz of activity around him. Care staff took the time to sit with him, to walk with him, to engage with him, and to be more for him then a mechanical care giver. I know my father was loved and the food… the food was just amazing. I found myself enviously eyeing the pot of potato, corn and kielbasa chowder they were serving one evening – and of course they always invited me to eat there if I so desired.
I would visit my dad daily, and the home was always warm and inviting, music would be playing, the doors would be open onto the deck, and the whole house smelled of home cooking. This is a good place – there simply is not anything else out there like it. Trust me. I looked.
And don’t get me wrong, this level of excellence does not come easy. Diana runs a tight ship, she doesn’t accept subpar performance, and she is responsive to all feedback. I’ve seen her fire employees and work herself nonstop to fill any gaps when they would rarely come up. If you’ve been looking for a home for a precious loved one, you can stop looking. A Meadow View is the place.
