My grandma after a lot of experience of another place that kicked her out. This place has been a breath of fresh air and they have taken great care of her and are welcoming to us visiting her! Thank you so much!
We have a close family friend that began residing here close to two years ago. Wow! It is absolutely amazing…the staff is truly so caring and understanding. The facility itself is gorgeous and so clean. My mother years ago was unable to take care of herself and had to reside at a retirement center and it was absolutely awful…dingy…staff was rude and had a sense of secrecy to them. I wish we knew about harbor care homes back then, it is truly a dream to see someone you love that can no longer care for themselves be treated with such love and respect within such a beautiful environment.
My Grandma has been in the care of Harbor Care for a couple of years now and we wouldn’t have her any other place. The staff are so sweet and caring. The owners communicate anytime there is in need of a dr. They always keep her and her room clean with her favorite shows and subtitles on 🙂 They cook fresh meals for every meal and play games with the other occupants there
My Mom has been at Harbor Care Homes for over two years and they have been great. The previous facility in San Juan Capistrano, didn’t take very good care of her. She always on good dpilled on her blouse, she fell twice and they didn’t know why and even fractured her arm !! Of course they didn’t know how it happened! We moved my Mom to Harbor Care homes and couldn’t be happier with her care, the attention they give her especially with her dementia is just wonderful. 18 months ago she got pneumonia and the hospital said with her AFIB she’s only make it 4/5 days. Thanks to the care givers at Harbor care Homes she’s off all meds, and their care has her going strong at 96! We highly recommend them for your loved ones. In our opinion there’s no better place to have your loved ones.
As she grew older, Norma, our mother/mother-in-law requested that she move to a “retirement” home. She was widowed, eighty years old and had grown tired of life alone. She was no longer able to manage the single residence home she owned and she needed assistance with necessary survival chores. With our support, we visited numerous “high-end” options, ranging in cost from $10,000 to $12,000 a month. Norma cycled through several of these very expensive options so we have a very good “database” to make comparisons. In one “high end” residence she was left unattended in the shower. She fell and broke her back. In the next residence her jewelry was stolen including her wedding ring. The third residence was in constant flux, with staff turnover confusing and disrupting. Her fourth luxury residence offered great programs but the large facility was severely understaffed and the staff often complained to us that they could not do their work. That meant Norma was often left alone without the periodic checks (that she paid for) and no one able to escort her to any of the activities. All of this got worse as Norma transitioned into her nineties, she became increasingly frail. At the same time, despite marketing promises, the “rent” continued to increase, dangerously depleting resources.
We sought alternatives. We had avoided board and care facilities because of the rumors that they provided insufficient and unprofessional care. We were referred to Harbor Care Homes as the best facility in Southern Orange County. We contacted the owners, Scott and Ryan to visit.
They have six homes, all relatively close to each other. Scott and Ryan also live in the area of their homes. We visited two Harbor Care Homes where there was a vacancy. The homes were spotless. We couldn’t find any dust. (One of our concerns in the “luxury” facilities was the very poor housekeeping). That was certainly not the case with the Harbor home. Scott and Ryan made a very impressive presentation that indicated they were very knowledgeable about aging and with needs and concerns of families. This was not a sales presentation but an impressive display of their professionalism. As we toured the two facilities, it was apparent that Scott and Ryan knew all the residents and had a comfortable relationship with staff. This disconfirmed the rumors we had heard about board and care homes. We mentioned the homes were spotless, they also were very well landscaped and fit seamlessly into the neighborhood.
We moved Norma into Harbor Care. She never seemed happier. The staff was physically available 24 hours/day. They were kind and loving. We visited often and always were impressed by the open and welcoming attitude of the caregivers. Norma had social contact during most waking hours which was very important and in stark contrast to the isolation in the luxury facilities. Not only that, Scott and Ryan were always available for assistance and even sent us pictures of Norma with both of them beside her. These are very nice, responsible young men. We are grateful for the care they provided Norma in the last days of her life.
