This classic hotel located on historic Banyan Drive offers scenic views and has been welcoming visitors for half a century. It features local dining options and is a popular venue for events and gatherings.
Located on Hilo Bay, the oceanfront Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel is an icon of authentic Hawaiian charm and aloha.
We booked our family trip through Costco Travel and were surprised to find Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel as one of the lodging options, considering it’s nearly a 2-hour drive from Kona. We overlooked the distance, thinking the name “Castle” might make up for it—but unfortunately, we were completely hotel-fished.
The hotel was extremely outdated, smelled musty, and just felt unclean overall. It was definitely not what we were expecting or hoping for. Most of the staff came off as indifferent or outright rude, with one major exception—Maui from maintenance. He was kind, helpful, and the only person who left us with a positive impression.
We had originally planned to stay for 7 days and 6 nights, but we ended up checking out on day 3 because we simply couldn’t take it anymore. On top of that, the surrounding area didn’t have much to offer in terms of activities or attractions, especially for families.
Needless to say, we won’t be booking here again and wouldn’t recommend it to others planning a relaxing vacation on the Big Island.
Great hotel, good service and staff. Hope you guys fix the pool ladder coz the steps are broken and I slipped going down the 7’ side. Kindly just check this safety concern
Charla at the front desk and all of the staff were the best!
