My mom is 87 and was very weak from too many hospital stays for pneumonia and infections, so we needed a place for her to regain her strength to come home. When I walked in the front door I knew it was the right place for her to get well and come home. It doesn’t smell of the disinfectants like other places that we’re trying to hide the dirty, this place is clean and lived the fact that each room has its own circulation for air.
The rehab was truly an elevated experience. She had OT/PT and ST. They all checked in and were knowledgeable and had patience.
Food was exceptional! I didn’t feel like I needed to bring it from home. Always had Dr on call to answer questions.
I didn’t feel visit daily and saw how they treated the people that didn’t have visitors.
Yes, I give it five stars – I did visit other places nearby and this was a world apart.
Much like others have said, STAY AWAY!! Their rating is bs! My grandmother was sent to NHC after a hospital stay for rehab. She was only there a short bit before needing to be readmitted to the hospital for stuff they should have caught. She was repeatedly ignored, denied medication, neglected, refused help that she asked for, etc. Many times, especially at night, employees lied and said my grandmother refused her meds when she absolutely did not. She has a fractured spine and coccyx!! They would lay her in painful positions and leave her for hours. She would have to call my mom begging for help and have her come there to get anything done. One night a nurse was being awful to my grandma so she called my mom for her to hear. The nurse refused to help or speak to my grandma until she was “done with her call”. My grandma pretended to be done and the nurse checked my grandma’s phone. Upon seeing she was still on with my mom the nurse slammed her phone HARD on her tray, away from her. Then proceeded to “help” her without speaking a word to her or acknowledging anything that was said. My grandma requested a little more help to adjust and the nurse walked out. The horror stories are endless. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FAMILY HERE!
NHC provides a 2 week training course for individuals who are seeking their CNA license. I attended the class February 3rd and could not complete the 2 weeks due to how heartbreaking it was to witness how cruel the staff members are. On February 11th I watched staff members force a lady, who could not speak English, out of her bed as the lady cried tears to be left alone. She was becoming what they call combative, but what I saw was a woman who wanted them to respect her RIGHTS and wishes. She was fighting them to leave her alone. I watched as they forcefully took her out of her bed to put her in a wheelchair in the most dangerous way possible. On February 12th an employee by the name Hope screamed at an older lady who was “transitioning” (soon to pass). She was so close to her that the spit from her mouth was hitting the woman’s face. The woman had simply asked to go to her room to eat her breakfast instead of being in the hallway, but because she’s a “fall risk” Hope refused to let her do so and started yelling at her VERY violently. I would not trust Hope to be alone in a room with anyone because of how instantly angry she became. I then watched one of the nurses SHOVE a cup full of meds down the lady’s throat as she was already struggling to breathe. She turned to me and said, “What are they doing to me? help me help me!!” She was begging and pleading for help. God how my heart instantly shattered. I went to the bathroom and cried until I was able to get myself together. During my time here I heard staff calling residents “disgusting” and to me that is profanity in a setting such as a nursing home. It is an inhumane environment and they treat these folks like prisoners. The first week of this course was strictly handbook training and we would cover chapters, then test on them. The instructor Katie had given me a 66% on a test that I had gotten an 80% on. When I brought it to her attention she marked it out and wrote the correct grade. I then asked if I could review my other tests in order to make sure I had received the proper grade and she denied. Wednesday Feb 5th I was hit by a wheel chair by two classmates who were horse playing due to her neglect of insuring the people attending the class were using the facilities equipment properly. They boast about how they are a 5 star facility but are far from that. I pray that those seeking a safe place for their loved ones to stay far away from NHC. Words cannot describe how awful it truly was. Unfortunately if I were to type every complaint I had, you’d be reading an article. Please steer clear of NHC
