  1. My father moved into the Apsley 8 months ago and has found his new home. From our first visit, we fell in love. The building is new construction and purpose built to be an assisted living. This was important to us as it makes my dad’s life getting around convenient and safer. The public spaces are generous (especially for Manhattan) and decorated with museum quality art and interesting sculptures. After 8 months, we are still discovering new, unique art pieces. There are plenty of spaces to relax and read, a movie theatre, a lovely outside terrace on the 14th floor, and well stocked art studio—Dad has discovered he has an inner artist! There is a beauty shop/barbershop where Dad had his first manicure/pedicure. The restaurant is gorgeous with extra high ceilings, overlooks Broadway and has a different delicious menu each meal. While the facility is impressive, the staff is what makes the Apsley home. Each team member is caring, thoughtful and go out of their way to make sure my father is happy and well taken care of. We are thrilled with the level of care and attention he receives every day. Finally, the daily programing is spectacular. From live string quartet performances, history lectures, and special events, there are plenty of daily activities to keep my dad entertained and engaged. There has even been two live performances by well known Broadway actors! The decision to move to an assisted living was difficult and we are so fortunate we found the Apsley—my dad has found a wonderful new community and a new place to call home.

  2. We’re so deeply grateful that we found the Apsley, where my mother has resided since July 2023. After my father died in 2020, she lived alone in a West End apartment, feeling isolated, lonely and detached from daily life. Since she moved to the Apsley, we’ve witnessed an amazing transformation – she’s always keeping active, going enthusiastically from one activity to another, making friends, taking accompanied walks around the neighborhood, making art with students and listening to live concerts. Both the variety of the offerings and the underlying stability of her life there make her feel very much at home.

The wonderful staff has played a big part in her contentment. They are always trying to engage her in new things, but never in a pushy or overbearing way. She feels completely comfortable around them. When complications required her to move to a more restrictive memory care program, everyone charged with her care took great pains to ease the transition and find the best possible solutions for her situation, making sure she was still getting all the activities and care that have made her life so much better since she got there – and more than that, I have seen how kind and generous they’ve been with her, and also how much she clearly appreciates them all. This, to me, goes way beyond official duties.

Just to list a few of the staff members who’ve been particularly helpful to my mom: Rene, Jeremy, Emily, Aaron, Jessica, Samuel, Mae, Sandra, Greg, Imani, Melissa, Stephany – and the list goes on, from the lobby all the way to the 14th floor. The “bistro” is a nice place to eat, and Kefir, the chef, comes up with pleasing dishes on a daily basis. Sometimes it feels like a cruise ship, and I believe several of the activities staff have that kind of training, which helps them engage most of the residents.

One note: In my experience, the Apsley is at its best when the family, if there is one, takes an active role in their loved one’s life. That doesn’t mean you have to hover – the care is always great. But the more you get to know the Apsley, the more your loved one will enjoy it.

  3. Our father has been at The Apsley for a bit over a year. He wasn’t happy anywhere until we moved him here. He loves the people that work there, most notably Renee and Jessica who are wonderful, dedicated and supportive. They help him out with his daily comings and goings making sure to stay in constant contact with his children. Not having to worry about our father has proven priceless. We feel very lucky to have found The Apsley. We’re very grateful to everyone that works there.
