  1. LONG POST ALERT:
I wanted to wait and review The Blake once our experience was completed.
Unfortunately, we could not stay longer due to health issues that were beyond the scope of what the Blake could provide for my loved one. But I’d like to share with you our experience start to finish.
From the beginning, you will feel very welcomed. The building and courtyards are beautiful, the rooms are new and spacious with multiple floor plans to choose from.
The food is very good, and allows residents daily options. The activity calendar is full of fun things to do. Church services are provided (catholic and protestant).
The CNAs and Aides are pleasant to the residents.
The dining area is beautiful and food and service is great.

As a family, we had some unusual circumstances arise, and The Blake was super accommodating to us. We also asked about putting cameras in the room, and were encouraged to do so.
We had a couple of hiccups along the way, but found that management was available to us and listened to us.

With all that being said, this is my opinion:
The Blake is EXCELLENT for the more independent resident that is able to participate in the activities. They are EXCELLENT at medication management and doing some minimal assistance to the residents.
I found that the more assistance the resident needs the harder it was for us.
Staffing the CNAs and Aides continues to be an issue. They are really good about getting rid of employees that aren’t up to par. And I understand it is hard to find good people. The people that are there currently, are really great. But they are worked really hard to cover for shortages. Which means if you have a loved one who needs A LOT of care (needs diapers changed, given showers, needs assistance in eating)you may want to look into a different type of facility.
But if your LO is pretty active and maybe needs help with medications and someone to get them to the dining hall. This is your place! Your LO will probably thrive.

I don’t have any experience with the Memory Care area. But what I have seen, it looks well staffed. The residents look safe and well taken care of.

My dad had a pretty bad fall. We received a call in what I believe to be an acceptable time frame. The nurses are great, and do a great job. That fall lead to some other health issues that lead to my dad having to go into a nursing home.
When I brought my dad’s new health concerns to the Director, I was met with compassion, but also the fact that my dad needed more care than they could provide, and he wouldn’t be able to come back.
Moving out was an easy process with them.

I would definitely recommend The Blake for active-ish seniors and the Memory Care area.

  2. The Blake is more than just a beautiful facility. From the tour through the move-in process to the care of our loved one, the staff at The Blake is top notch. They take each residents’ individual needs into consideration and provide a unique care program to help them live their best lives. If you have a loved one in need of memory care, regardless of where they are on the dementia spectrum, this is the place for them! I highly encourage those with loved ones who are higher functioning with their dementia to consider The Blake.
