Disappointed in the Blake.
The facility has a theater room and the projector has been broken for months (literally). Today I was happy to see the weekly Activity Schedule showed a Western Movie Night at 6pm. So I inquired with the staff and was told that the projector in fact was still broken, pending delivery of a part. So then I asked “why it is showing on the activity schedule which is printed weekly”. The staff response, “Every time I bring that up in a meeting I’m told the part will be coming any day now”. This is so disappointing to hear. Residents have been told for months that the part will be coming any day now, so at this point it is just pure laziness not to remove the activity and replace it with something else until the projector is fixed.
The second part that is frustrating, is that each guest pays thousands of dollars each month and there is a Best Buy down the road where you can buy a decent projector for less than $1000, even if it’s just used as a backup. Meanwhile, the Blake has done millions in revenue since the projector failed ($9000 x 100 residents x 5 months = $4.5M). Surely somewhere in the budget they can splurge and get a backup projector.
Lastly, I work in the world of manufacturing supply chains, and the Global Supply chain crisis of 2021/2022 is over. The excuse of the part will come any day now only holds for a few weeks max. To continue saying “any day now” after that you lose credibility. My guess is that either the projector part is obsolete and the person in charge of sourcing the repair is incapable working out another solution, or the Blake really just doesn’t care and it’s easier for the business to just say “any day now”.
Whether the part is obsolete or not the answer at the end of the day is to just get a temporary projector ($1000 or less). Simple. As I’m writing this review I really can’t help but think the business side of the Blake doesn’t care about its residents.
Stop saying ‘any day’ now and just do the right thing. Literally, the residents could pass at any time so they deserve better than… “any day now”.
I worked at The Blake for years. The residents give you hope every time they smile.
Update –appreciated meeting with the staff and how attentive and receptive you were about our concerns. We have seen improvement from the initial issues. Also, we understand that there has been a change in staffing that is still in transition but appears engaged in mom’s care. Thank you for your willingness to meet and listen to our concerns so promptly.
My mom has been at The Blake for 2 years. The cost of her care goes up 8% each year, but her overall care has become super lacking. There are a few staff members remaining in memory care that I absolutely love. But, the quality of care that we had for my mom when we chose The Blake is gone. When I went to see her tonight, her hamper was overflowing with soiled laundry and her soiled bedspread was still on her bed. I’m not usually this blunt, but I entrusted the care of my mother to this facility after visiting other facilities. And, I am heartbroken about what has become of this facility.
Words can’t express our gratitude for the love and compassion shown to our family. This place is amazing.
