?i was here? i dont think so
My mom and had been dad have been married for 72 years, with dad struggling with dementia the last couple of them. Right before Christmas his legs gave way and he could no longer support himself on his walker. Initially he was in a hospital and then a rehab center where he struggled as he was not used to being alone and was disoriented. It was determined the rehab center was not the right place for him and we quickly pivoted to look at Bed and Care places. This concept was new to us, and we consulted Chere Vought, at a Plan for Senior Care. Although she was sick at the time, Chere immediately jumped in and recommended 2 places as a basis for comparison but knew which one we would select.
While the first facility was nice, I left there wondering if that was what I could expect from the Bed and Care’s. We then went to Verona Court. When we entered, we felt like we were in a home. Arda, who along with her husband Tarek are the owners of Parentis, Verona Court parent company, met us and we immediately knew this was the right place. Along with the head nurse Julie, they spent time with us answering all our questions and concerns. They provided a complete service, transferring my father from the rehab center through to Hospice. We had nothing to worry about or arrange.
At Verona Court there are only 6 residents, but with 2 full time care givers you have a ratio of 3:1 patient to caregiver, translating into significant personal attention.
Dad did not have it easy. We knew the end was near. He was bedridden and often up throughout the night calling out for my mother. If not for the incredible care provided by Remi and Jun, it could have been so much worse. They were there 24×7 to care for his needs. Jason the head nurse from Hospice was also great to work with. We spoke about what we wanted for dad and he would provide regular updates every time he visited.
We visited everyday and dropped in without advanced notice. From the time we walked arrived to the time we left we always felt comfortable that dad was in the right place. All the other residents were often out and well cared for.
It was most important that my mother could not have asked for a better spot for dad in his final days. From Arda and Tarek , to Julie and Jason and most importantly to Remi and Jun thank you for making dad’s final days peaceful and serene.
