CareGivers of Jamestown provided 6 months of in-home care for my father before he moved to an assisted living facility. The care provided by CareGivers’ aides gave my father a much better quality of life than he would have enjoyed on his own, and provided peace of mind for me and my siblings. Some of the tasks the caregivers provided assistance with were cooking (he absolutely loved Ashlynn’s cooking!), which he’d never learned to do in decades of marriage, grocery shopping, laundry, vacuuming, help with bathing, and companionship / conversation. Quick action by a caregiver once prevented a minor medical issue from developing into what could have been a major problem.
CareGivers was able to provide the hours of service that we were looking for, and they generally did a good job providing coverage when there was staff turnover or someone couldn’t show up due to illness or car problems. They were able to work with my father’s vacation schedule, too; i.e., same caregivers after he returned from out-of-town as before. Communication was good both from the CareGivers’ office, which always picked up the phone and was up-to-date on what was going on with our father’s care, and from the caregivers, who would call or text when they had concerns. CareGivers handled the invoicing and other paperwork that the long term care insurance company needed, which I’m glad I didn’t need to deal with after the initial sign-up.
Homecare is a notoriously difficult business to staff, and we did have a bit of caregiver turnover in the beginning. I would have liked to see more formality in the assignment tracking (bathing, house cleaning, etc.), and had a few other minor concerns. That said, here’s the bottom line – my father really liked his caregivers and liked their service, and we WOULD select CareGivers if we had to do it all over again. Thanks to Karen, Ashlynn, and others at CareGivers for making our dad’s last 6 months at home a low-stress time.
My mom lives in a senior home and I had the pleasure to meet her aid today, Will. She was so polite, respectful and was getting things done without wasting any time or being told to do them. She was thorough and addressed my mom’s areas of help with a wonderful and positive attitude! Keep up the good work Will, you are making a difference in the lives that you help!
