PruittHealth – SouthWood

Overall, the Pruitt Health-Tallahassee at Southwood is substandard. The facility is understaffed, and the care provided to my elderly father, after a hospital stay, has not been adequate. The hospital doctor, who is the facility’s medical director, recommended this facility to us. Can you say kickback?

The food is awful. Last night’s dinner is a prime example. Who serves a turkey sandwich on plain white bread with a cabbage leaf, rather than a lettuce leaf, on it. In 62 years of life, I’ve never seen that. His tossed green salad was swimming in so much dressing that it looked like green salad soup. The french onion soup was cold and looked like it had been poured right out of a can. During our most recent visit, a female staffer overheard my father complaining about the food and jokingly said the food was so bad that she wouldn’t feed it to a stray dog.

I was supposed to have a meeting with his Care Team within 72 hours of admission. Finally, on Day 8, I got a phone call after I tracked down the staffer earlier that morning and reminded her that we had not had a meeting. When she finally called, no other Care Team members were on the conference call. It was just her, and she had no answers to my questions about physical and occupational therapies for my father. He has not been getting the needed therapies, and staff still have not given clear information about his health care plan after Day 11 now. Answers promised, but no follow-up. The staff even admitted that the conference call/meeting was poorly handled.

When I called the corporate office’s Hotline after the Day 8 fiasco to voice complaints, I was given the wrong name and phone number of the corporate area supervisor over this facility. Regardless, have we gotten any follow-up from the corporate office? NO!!!

My wife and I are so disgusted with this place that we have now toured other rehab facilities. In order to transfer my father elsewhere, we need Pruitt Health to fax a referral packet with medical records to the new facility. We have asked for this paperwork since last Thursday, but Pruitt Health is slow-walking this process. Each day’s delay means another day of Medicare payments to this facility. Admissions to new facilities require medical records be sent so the new facility can do a medical review and make a determination of an available bed.

My wife and I are taking photos and keeping notes in order to file a compliant with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration after my father can be relocated. Rather than being helped to the bathroom, my father is left to soil himself in his bed, and dirty Depends are left in the shower stall. When we took a bag of unwashed clothes home, we found soiled jeans that had been left in a plastic bag for a week in his closet.

There is so much more to show and tell.

So in closing, just DON’T!!!

Nobody likes to answer the damn phone, I understand about the weather and the bad road conditions. However, my father was admitted last night and all I need to know is if he is okay and what room he is in. I refuse to believe that this facility is rated 5 out of 5.

Pruitt is a great place to work. We pretty much operate as one big family, which in returns, makes really pleasant to get up and come to work daily. I really enjoy working here at PruittHealth Southwood and I love doing what I do here.

Don’t take your family member to Pruitthealth 2301 Bluff Oak Way, Tallahassee , FL or you will regret it. Low staffing everyday. Some patients get different privileges and everyone else is treated like low class. This place is BAD. I wouldn’t let my dog go to this Rehab. They fool you because the place is nice and clean but your family WILL NOT get the proper care that is needed. I never saw a doctor on staff day or night. Well they never came to my mom’s room. This is crazy,
Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy and front office staff are OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!!
TRUST ME DON’T take your family member there. You will regret it!!!!!

OT and PT were excellent. My husband was ordered a heart healthy diet because he just had open heart surgery. Most meals consisted of Processed meat with fake gravy, Salted pasta and overcook vegetables. The fresh fruit promised was canned pears. Sweet tea to drink even though we told them he does not drink tea. All the meals were very high in sodium. His floor was not swept or mopped his entire stay. The nurse and staff during the day were great but night and weekend staff did not respond to light. The first night he asked night staff to plug in his C-Pap machine they just walked out of room without answering or plugging in. This was addressed and he was able to use after that. He ended up back in hospital with A-Fib, dehydration, and fluid in his lungs. Some is surgery related. We checked him out and will not recommend this facility
